The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) wants to encourage parents and caregivers to understand the risks of lead poisoning in children and when to ask for a blood test. Lead can impact IQ, behavior and development, which last a lifetime.
School nurses are in a position to identify children who may be at risk for lead poisoning and help parents seek testing. Please share this information in places such as offices, classrooms, bulletin boards and other locations to reach families with young children. School newsletters and emails are also effective for sharing information—both electronically and in print.
Parent/caregiver information is online at: test4lead.org.
